Welcome to The I Matter Foundation A Course:

From Confusion to Clarity

Every child is complex, but some are more complex than others.

In this introduction to the I Matter Framework you will be covering familiar theoretical ideas introduced in an innovative fashion.  The intention is to bring well established psychological ideas that are needed by parents and professionals of children with more complex needs, into a really useful framework called the Adult-Child Well-Being 'I Matter' Framework.

You will discover how a deeper understanding of stress states, child development, brain development and the adult role can help you understand better what is happening in your home or work setting.

You will also learn about the direction of travel and the steps you can take if you want to make a difference.

Successful completion of the Foundation A course can be followed by

i) the Foundation B course called Watching Affectionately.  The B course is a more interactive experience, in which you will have support in putting Theory into Practice in the context of everyday professional life. Those who have a personal interest will also be able to explore the professional as parent implications.

ii) an application to register on our network as a Foundation stage referral practitioner (if you are a licensed professional with a complementary skill set) or as a Trainee Study Supporter if you are linked with a Lead Practitioner.

iii) the opportunity to progress to the Intermediate training.

About the instructor

Dr Cathy Betoin is a practising clinical psychologist, an experienced teacher and a parent.

She has worked in schools, child psychology and CAMHS settings for over 30 years with children and families who are managing a wide variety of challenging and complex behaviours. Cathy has a passion for ensuring that parents, carers and professionals who work directly with children have access to the knowledge and understanding that can help them make a difference.

The Adult-Child Well-Being 'I Matter' Framework is a carefully organised well-evidenced set of ideas organised into a practical foundation for decision making.  It draws attention to the fact that to help a challenging or complex child we have to put adult-child relationships, adult-child stress and child development back on the map.

HOW DOES I MATTER TRAINING IMPACT EXACTLY?

It's quite simple really - we offer resources and encourage people to take time to think and learn about what is happening around them..
